Garden signs

 My husband has been wanting a garden since last year and this year he finally put one in.  It's not a very large garden and we only have 5 things growing.  But, nontheless, it's kinda exciting.  I'm just excited about the green beans!  Mmm mmm!  My husband and the kids tend to it a lot more than I do.  Although, I did pick weeds the other day.  I thought the garden needed a 'crafty' touch, so, I Googled images for garden signs and found these adorable little ones.  Even more better was that we had everything on hand already.

 I had the girls paint the sticks for me.  Then I glued the 2 posts on the back.  Next I wrote the name of the vegetable and drew a little picture of it and then Modge Podge'd it.

 Do you see it?  This is actually our first tomato.  It'll be August before we get anything it seems.  The weather hasn't been helping either.

 There you have it, our little garden markers.  I think they are perfect.

 Yes, that is spinach and not weeds.  (haha)

Lightning bugs {day 3}

Here is another little project that we did.  I searched the internet and found this idea here.

We used glow in the dark paint instead of white paint.  We used glue dots and then put the pipe cleaners on first and then did the thumb print.  

I am lovin' the glow in the dark paint that I want to use it on a t-shirt now.

When they were done, we went into the closet to see them.  It was pretty cool!

Lightning bugs {day 2}

 This is the project that inspired me to go crazy over lightning bugs.  I found the idea thru paintcutpaste, which led me over to ohdeedoh.  As soon as I saw them, I had to make them.  

 Now, if I was a brilliant blogger (and photographer), I would have taken the jar outside and taken it's picture in the grass.  That would of been a great photo moment.  But, no, I am NOT, so, it is sitting on the kids table in the living room.

Seems I forgot their wings-DOH!

Lightning bugs

I saw a craft awhile ago about making your own firefly.  It was so cute!  That made me think back to when I was a kid and catching lightning bugs (as I call them) and putting them in jars.  Ahhh, the good ol' days!  I think I would still catch a lightning bug in my hand, but, I don't think I would touch any other bugs anymore.  Eww!  So, I decided to teach my girls about fireflies this week.  We went to the library on Monday and checked out a few books on lightning bugs.  I figured I would read one a day.  

 I also printed out a few coloring pages for them to color and I talked a little about the firefly; how they glow, where they live, etc.  They probably didn't understand much of it, but, oh well.  Who knew there was a website dedicated to fireflies.  Check out www.firefly.org

Did you know that they are disappearing?  I believe it.  I really haven't seen any in a long time.  Very sad actually.  I hope my girls get to catch lightning bugs in a jar like I did.  Tomorrow, we are making the craft that inspired this learning about lightning bugs.

Cupcake forecast - SUNNY

My daughter had her school carnival last week and I usually make something for the bake sale.  Last year was the frog cupcakes.  This year, I saw these cute sun cupcakes in my Taste of Home magazine.  They were super easy to make. 

  I decided to Google, free sun printables and I came across pixelscrapper.  I thought it was perfect--here comes the sun, and I say, it's alright.-the Beatles.  Great song!

Tea cups for tea-chers

 As soon as I saw this idea in the Family Fun magazine, I knew I had to make these for Teacher Appreciation Day.  How fitting that for my younger daughter, Tuesday was supposed to be about RELAXING.  I think a cup of hot, green tea is relaxing.  To me anyway, I drink about 4 cups of it a day.  My other daughter took these to her teachers today.  They were easy to make.  Although, my first one I wasn't paying attention and glued the top of the cup shut.  Duh!
